Air is a drawing I made for my contemporary dance teacher. It is made from a combination of watercolour, acrylic, and pastel pencil.
I first used the pastel pencils to draw the figure. I added a hint of red, so the drawing is somewhere between black-and-white and colour. I struggled to differentiate the figure from the background, which is why I added a thin glaze of blue onto the background, to add contrast to the red colour of the dancer. To further add distinction between the foreground and background I drew a white outline around the dancer, which added a feeling of modernity. I like the tension between the white outline and the more classical drawing techniques of the piece.
