I wanted to improve my drawing skills, and so I undertook a series of increasingly difficult drawings. This is the first of three in that series.
In this piece I practised a coloured pencil technique that involves laying down a vibrant colour, then blending a more neutral skin tone on top. The resulting drawing exaggerates the colours of the original reference photo, bringing forth more whimsical and fauvist characteristics.
